What’s the difference between a “smart home” and full home automation?
A smart home usually means a handful of standalone devices — a Nest thermostat, a Ring doorbell, some smart bulbs. Full home automation means those systems are unified on one platform (like Control4 or Savant), controlled from one interface, and programmed to work together based on scenes, schedules, and routines.
Do I need to be building new to install full automation?
No. We retrofit existing homes constantly — the install just looks different. In a finished home, we work around the existing structure, use wireless components where it makes sense, and fish wire through walls in a way that minimizes patching and repainting.
How much does a smart home cost?
It scales with the home and what you want it to do. A focused project — lighting, shades, and audio in the main living areas — can start in the low five figures. A fully integrated 9,000 sq ft new build with theater, multi-zone audio, lighting, climate, and security can be a substantial six-figure investment.
